“Oh LORD, our God, how awesome is your name through all the earth!”
Passage
O LORD, our God, how awesome is your name through all the earth!
I will sing of your majesty above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants,
you have established a bulwark against your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and stars that you set in place—
What is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him little less than a god,
crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands,
put all things under his feet:
All sheep and oxen, even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas.
O LORD, our Lord, how awesome is your name throughout the earth!
Questions
1. What type of psalm is Ps 8? A lament, a hymn of praise or a wisdom psalm?
2. When a child says something unexpectedly wise or true, adults will sometimes say, “Out of the mouths of babes…!” Have you or your parents ever heard this saying? Now you know it’s a quote from Ps. 8 in the Bible!
3. Why is the psalmist praising God? What does he see?
4. According to the psalmist, how is God mindful of mankind and care for us?
5. What does it mean to say that God has given mankind “dominion”?
6. Think of some ways that your family or people you know can praise God.

¡Señor, nuestro Dios, qué admirable es tu Nombre en toda la tierra!
Quiero adorar tu majestad sobre el cielo: con la alabanza de los niños y de los más pequeños, erigiste una fortaleza contra tus adversarios para reprimir al enemigo y al rebelde.
Al ver el cielo, obra de tus manos, la luna y la estrellas que has creado: ¿qué es el hombre para que pienses en él, el ser humano para que lo cuides?
Lo hiciste poco inferior a los ángeles, lo coronaste de gloria y esplendor; le diste dominio sobre la obra de tus manos, todo lo pusiste bajo sus pies: todos los rebaños y ganados, y hasta los animales salvajes; las aves del cielo, los peces del mar y cuanto surca los senderos de las aguas.
¡Señor, nuestro Dios, qué admirable es tu Nombre en toda la tierra!

1. ¿Qué tipo de salmo es el Salmo 8? ¿Una lamentación, un himno de alabanza o un salmo de sabiduría?
2. Cuando un niño dice algo inesperadamente sabio o verdadero, los adultos a veces dicen: “¡De la boca de los niños…!”. ¿Alguna vez tú o tus padres han escuchado este dicho? ¡Ahora sabes que es una cita del Salmo 8 en la Biblia!
3. ¿Por qué el salmista está alabando a Dios? ¿Qué es lo que él ve?
4. Según el salmista, ¿cómo es que Dios tiene en cuenta a la humanidad y se preocupa por nosotros?
5. ¿Qué significa decir que Dios ha dado a la humanidad “dominio”?
