About the Family Bible Challenge

The Institute for Catholic Formation of the Diocese of Bridgeport is pleased to introduce the Family Bible Challenge. Our goal in the first season was to provide 1,000 families with up to two Bibles, a weekly reflection, and access to videos introducing each book of the Bible, trivia questions, and other resources.

Each Sunday, families will receive an email identifying a new passage that they are asked to read together as a family, reflect upon, and discuss. We will provide the passage and the questions. You just have to make the time.

The “challenge” is to engage your family with Sacred Scripture. There is no contest. There are no rules. There is, however, the great benefit of falling in love with Jesus through the power of the Good News found in the Bible you will receive.

The Bibles are provided through a partnership with the American Bible Society. The videos are provided through a partnership with The Bible Project. The reflection and trivia questions are the work of generous volunteers and the staff of The Institute for Catholic Formation.

Will your family accept the challenge?

About The Dove

The dove has long been a cherished symbol within the Christian tradition. Serving as the primary icon for the Family Bible Challenge, the dove appears here as it did for Noah – signaling renewal and the beginning of a new covenant. For those who participate in the Family Bible Challenge, the dove also represents the experience one has when discovering the story of this covenant: God’s promise of salvation, and the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus – God made man. It is our hope is that the Family Bible Challenge serves as a reminder that when we encounter Scripture, we encounter Christ. Parents are first teachers in the ways of faith. This encounter asks for a response: to share His message of peace to all the earth, beginning in our own family.
