Week #6 Reflection: Mary Magdalene/Mary of Bethany
Passage
Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him. Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then Judas the Iscariot, one [of] his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, “Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages and given to the poor?” He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions. So Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” (John 12:1-8)
Questions
1. In Luke 8:2, Mary Magdalene is healed when 7 demons are driven out from her. In the passage for today, she seems to do something very odd. Why do you think Mary washed the feet of Jesus with expensive perfume and her hair?
2. The liter of expensive perfume, called nard, would have been worth a year’s wages. Do you think it is wasteful for her to pour it on the feet of Jesus? Why or why not?
3. How do we worship Jesus? Do we pour out our best at His feet with deep gratitude for the great gift of His love and forgiveness, or do we give him the leftovers and scraps of our time? Have people ever questioned the time and treasure you give to Jesus? How do you respond?
4. Mary Magdalene is one of only 3 people with Jesus at his crucifixion, and she returns to the tomb early Sunday morning, not giving up her hope in Him. How can we demonstrate our hope in Jesus?

1. En el Evangelio de Lucas (Luc 8, 2), María Magdalena es sanada y despojada de siete demonios. En el pasaje de hoy, ella hace algo un poco extraño. ¿Por qué crees que María Magdalena le lavó los pies a Jesús con su cabello y con perfumes finos?
2. El frasco de perfume de nado era tan fino, que su valor era tanto como el de las ganancias de un año. ¿Piensas que María lo desperdició al ponerlo en los pies de Jesús? ¿Por qué?
3. ¿De qué manera adoramos nosotros a Jesús? ¿Derramamos todo lo mejor a Sus pies, con inmensa gratitud por el gran regalo de Su amor y Su perdón hacia nosotros? ¿O simplemente le damos “las sobras” de nuestro tiempo? ¿En alguna ocasión alguien te ha cuestionado por el tiempo y el tesoro que le brindas a Nuestro Señor Jesucristo? ¿Qué le respondiste?
4. María Magdalena fue una de las únicas tres personas cercanas acompañando a Jesús en su crucifixión. Ella fue quien regresó a la tumba temprano el Domingo, sin perder la esperanza en Él, en su Maestro. ¿De qué forma podemos nosotros demostrar nuestra esperanza en Jesús?
