“The earth is the LORD’s and all it holds, the world and those who dwell in it”

Passage

The earth is the LORD’s and all it holds, the world and those who dwell in it. For He founded it on the seas and established it over the rivers.

Questions

1. Q: Do you remember what a psalm is? A: A song, a poem and a prayer all rolled into one. Q: What type of psalm is this one: a lament, a praise psalm or a wisdom psalm? A: These two verses are a praise psalm.

2.) The rest of Psalm 24 is an Entrance Psalm, sung for processions into the Temple in Jerusalem. With these first two verses, the worshippers recognized God as the great creator of the world. Q: What other parts of God’s creation do they recognize? A: The rivers and the seas. Q: When did you first see an ocean? Q: Do you live near a river or a sea/ocean? Q: Why did God make rivers and seas? Why didn’t he just make land? What do we need rivers for? What do we need seas for?

3.) Q: Can we “cultivate and care” for rivers and seas? How?
